Arsenal owner Kroenke called Wenger after rejecting Usmanov offer

Stan Kroenke receives £1 billion offer to sell his stake in Arsenal

Russian businessman Alisher Usmanov wants to buy Arsenal and has launched a £1billion bid to acquire majority shareholder's Stan Kroenke's 67 per cent stake in the club.

Kroenke Sports & Entertainment (KSE) have firmly reiterated that their shares in Arsenal are not for sale amid growing supporter unrest and rumours of a big-money takeover bid submitted by Alisher Usmanov.

The Financial Times reported Usmanov made the offer last month, and that Kroenke has yet to formally respond.

Wenger, who has been the target of protests from some of the club's fans, says the situation will be decided after the FA Cup final.

American business entrepreneur Kroenke has been involved with Arsenal for the past decade, with the 69-year-old taking his stake in the club from 12% to 67% during that time.

What with the distinct possibility of Arsenal missing out on £50million's worth of Champions League revenue next season, Usmanov was apparently hoping to strike while the iron was tepid.

Asked when the board meeting is scheduled for, Wenger replied: "I think it is after the FA Cup final". Kroenke took over as the majority shareholder for Arsenal in 2011.

Kroenke's statement comes at a time of great uncertainty at Arsenal, with manager Arsene Wenger's future still undecided, while there are fears that star duo Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez could push for a move away this summer. He is not at fault if we did not reach the Champions League.

'I respect Stan Kroenke a lot.

Wenger accepts doubts surrounding whether or not he would be staying on past the end of his contract have contributed to an "absolutely horrendous" environment at the club. But they should not question it, I am professional, as long as I am somewhere I do my job until the last day.

"Overall I believe we played since January in a very hard environment for different reasons", Wenger said. He played college football - as well as a high standard of basketball - and always followed the Premier League when he was younger.
