Govt's policy on J&K a 'disaster', says Anand Sharma

Darbar move J-K government summer capital

J&K chief minister Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday said that only PM Narendra Modi can resolve the Kashmir issue and extricate Kashmiris from the ongoing crisis.

"The people at the helm of affairs in the state, including the chief minister, other ministers (deputy CM), heads of state departments, vice-chairman of Development Authorities, commissioners of corporations etc need to introspect", BJP state spokesperson Prof Virender Gupta said here. "The nation will support whatever he decides", she said.

She said that PM Modi showed his strength by visiting Pakistan amid tensions between the two countries, the report added.

As for Mehbooba reaching out to the PM, the differences between the BJP and PDP remain despite a high-level meeting between her and Modi in New Delhi last month. "It is the sign of strength and courage and not the sign of weakness", she said. There were talks with L K Advani (in Kashmir).

Recalling how Singh was "insulted" by Modi and the BJP "even when there was one incident" of violence in the state, Sharma lauded the former prime minister for handling the issue, engaging with "wisdom". "He was successful to a large extent in shortest of period", she Mufti said.

She said the current situation in the Valley is because of the fact that the previous Government didn't carry forward the process initiated by the late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and ex-PM AB Vajpayee.

Mehbooba said how Modi's predecessor Manmohan Singh, who was PM for 10 years, also may have had a desire to see his birth home in Pakistan. "Now after 2008, for the first time, people have started expressing passion in the matter", CM said. "That lava has now spread in the Valley and we are facing it".

'Kashmir situation not good, it affects Jammu also.' Jammu has many tourist destinations and trying to develop them, said, Mufti on Congress leader GS Charak's statement that no developmental work done in Jammu.

"Whosoever takes law in own hands would be dealt with appropriately", she said and cautioned people against "nefarious designs" of some "negative elements" who wanted to derail the developmental process in Jammu region by creating an atmosphere of hate.
