WWE SmackDown Ratings, Viewership (5/9/17): Blue Brand Gains Viewers This Week

WWE Rumors 2017: Randy Orton to Win Against Jinder Mahal, Prediction Says

With Backlash 2017 just under two weeks away, though, that's no longer the case.

Randy Orton kicks off tonight's show.

Despite the near-record low WWE Raw ratings from the night before and strong competition from network fare and the National Basketball Association playoffs, SmackDown's ratings for their taped show on Tuesday, May 9th were up two percent from last week. Which was apparently the moment that Jinder Mahal was waiting for, as he locked in a Cobra Clutch Slam outta nowhere after Owens had been knocked out.

Randy Orton's return to Smackdown didn't go according to plan as his rival Jinder Mahal continues to get under his skin.

It seems like Orton is going to respond, but both men are interrupted by the United States Champion (and also the Face of America), Kevin Owens. He countered everything thrown at him, dispatched the Singh brothers and even landed an RKO on Kevin Owens.

Even Baron Corbin, a former NXT export like Mahal who has not yet won a single championship on the main roster, felt like a bigger star. Even Baron Corbin made a decision to enter the picture, but he was blindsided by an attack from Sami Zayn that resulted in a brouhaha erupting in the ring. There is a short brawl but is settled quickly.

It was finally time for the main event, as Randy Orton's team of high-flyers met the more brutal side of the Smackdown LIVE locker room. While this is only a singles match, all six women are around for the match. Lynch was distracted and allowed Natalya to pick up the victory. At first, Charlotte and Naomi were the ones beefing with each other. Natalya sweeps Lynch off of the rope then pins the Irish Lasskicker for the win.

Backstage segment: Becky Lynch, Charlotte and Naomi issues a challenge to Carmella, Natalya and Tamina for the upcoming WWE Backlash pay-per-view event. With no influence at ringside from Bray Wyatt now that he happens to be a main-eventer on RAW, Rowan turned to his dark mask and heard his instructions loud and clear: Beat the snot out of Harper. The referee takes it from him so he can't use it as a weapon and while the referee takes his eyes off of the match, Rowan pokes Harper in the eye.
