Cleveland Cavaliers Rumor Mill: Boston Celtics targeting both Paul George, Gordon Hayward

Sources: Celtics working to land both Gordon Hayward and Paul George

For salary-cap reasons the Celtics want to get Hayward to commit before they finalize a trade for George according to the Verticals league sources.

The Celtics' multi-step scheme - to nab the Jazz's Hayward off the free-agent pile before working out a blockbuster trade with the Pacers for George - is ambitious, but one well-suited for a proactive franchise with intriguing trade bait.

The Celtics reportedly are reportedly pursuing a plan that would net them both Gordon Hayward and Paul George this offseason.

Boston has maneuvering to do with its roster, including the shedding of salaries to create space to position itself for this scenario. But what Boston can offer the Pacers is young players paired with future draft picks which is something IN desperately needs. The Pacers might not be willing to wait until the start of free agency to make a deal. Earlier, George expressed interest in playing alongside the Utah Jazz superstar in the near future. Also according to The Vertical the Celtics and Pacers were close to a deal on draft night but a third team pulled out stalling the talks. "Indiana has been focused on trying to complete a deal with Boston for George, league sources told The Vertical".

Boston has been collectively rumored to be going after either George or Hayward for over a year now but it's alway been a one or the other.

Stay tuned for the latest rumblings on a potential Paul George to Celtics trade, Lakers trade news and updates from NBA Free Agency 2017.

George, 27, informed the Pacers on June 17 that he planned to leave the Pacers in 2018 as a free agent, and his preference was to sign a deal with his hometown Los Angeles Lakers.
