Critical patients upgraded in deck collapse

Serious injuries in Flathead Lake deck collapse

Two of those people are in critical condition from Saturday's accident at a memorial service for a firefighter who died in April.

More than 50 people were hurt, some severely, after a deck collapsed at Spruce Lodge, a log cabin-style facility located on the west shore of Flathead Lake.

At least 32 people were injured, some critically, late Saturday afternoon when a second-story deck collapsed at the Glacier Presbyterian Camp in Lake County during a memorial service. Many of her friends and relatives were taken away in ambulances, Dillon said. Some victims had serious injuries and had to be airlifted.

He added that he saw first responders from across the northwest Montana attending to the hurt - which ranged from children to elderly. "Many employees from multiple departments across both hospitals responded to help, including members of the housekeeping team who came in to keep rooms cleaned for immediate turnover".

The cause of the collapse on Saturday in Glacier Presbyterian Camp is under investigation. And while Sheriff Bell told us he couldn't give us an exact number of those critically injured he did tell us that some people were transported in the "red" category.

Eyewitnesses said the deck felt "spongy" on one side and then collapsed.

Three helicopters, including KRMC's ALERT air ambulance, were used to transport the injured. "We are grateful to all of the EMTs and Paramedics, fire departments and first responders who came to our aid We ask for your prayers for all involved". The camp's website lists a summer retreat on the weekend of June 17 and 18.
