Ibra's United future in doubt

Manchester United are unlikely to offer Zlatan Ibrahimovic an extended contract

Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is not expected to be offered a new contract at Old Trafford according to sources, ESPN reports.

Sky Sports claim that the Swedish striker will not be given the opportunity of playing for Manchester United for a second season.

United have remained quiet about Ibrahimovic's future since the end of the campaign, so his name will be one of first to look out for when the Premier League announces its clubs' retained and released list on Friday.

However, Ibrahimovic was brought in to do one thing at United, not necessarily score goals or win games but to bring back an air of arrogance, swagger and a ruthless streak to a side which has fallen well down from it's pedestal in recent years.

Ibrahimovic scored 28 objectives, including a victor in the EFL Cup last against Southampton, before suffering a knee injury throughout United's Europa League quarter-final versus Anderlecht. The list shows who is being let go at the end of their contract on June 30, although situations can still change.

Things might have been different but for a season-ending knee injury to the club's top scorer, which is likely to keep Zlatan out until at least January.

Ibrahimovic scored 28 goals for United and became hugely popular among the supporters but, at 35, he is not expected to be kept on with manager Jose Mourinho looking at recruiting a new first-choice "number 9" - Daily Telegraph.

That has caused United to alter their summer transfer intentions and focus their search on a central striking option as opposed to a No10, which saw the club drop their interest in Atletico Madrid's Antoine Griezmann last month.
