Intel: 'We want to bring VR to Esports' With The Challenger League

The 4 to 10-core processors will be available for pre-order beginning on June 19 and will start shipping to consumers the following week

This year's Intel Extreme Masters finals racked up 46 million online viewers, making it the most watched esports tournament in ESL history.

While the first couple of E3 2017 press conferences were a bit of a disappointment for virtual reality (VR) news, the last couple have greatly improved matters.

The four- to 10-core processors will be available for pre-order starting June 19 and will start shipping to consumers the following week.

A new partnership between Intel and ESL will certainly increase the level of exposure for esports and with the latest move, the world's leading manufacturer of desktop processors will become the Global Technical Partner of ESL.

Intel's Senior Vice President and General Manager Gregory Bryant commented: "Intel's involvement in esports and the gaming community has spanned more than 15 years, and we're always looking for ways to take the player and fan experience to the next level. We are excited to level-up our partnership with ESL, invest into the development of future esports stars, and create premier events like the Intel® Grand Slam".

Intel has teamed up with ESL to bring the Intel Grand Slam.

In the next month, ESL One Cologne, DreamHack Masters Malmo and ESL One New York all have prize pools of at least $200,000 and will qualify as Grand Slam events. Easily the most interesting aspect is that Echo Arena, a competitive VR title, will be free for a limited time when it launches on the Oculus Rift. The League is a worldwide competitive gaming series that also features "The Unspoken" from Insomniac Games. Linkin Park Destination powered by Spatialand and Intel will help the band extend its social media engagement with fans via a curated experience in VR - from the studio to on tour to anywhere in between.

Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) expands the boundaries of technology to make the most incredible experiences possible. Any change to any of those factors may cause the results to vary.
