Off Air with Tony Tone: We need Wonder Woman!

Wonder Woman

Pictures and DC Films' Wonder Woman has earned $11 million in Thursday previews with $1.5 million from IMAX. In recent years DC has seen Marvel take the lead in making great superhero movies; it hasn't been since Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight" that a DC film has been critically acclaimed, but this film may change that.

Directed by Patty Jenkins, Wonder Woman is known to be the most famous heroine of all time and has been released as a real action movie.

It seems pretty much everyone is pumped for Wonder Woman, starring Gal Gadot, which opens today.Wonder women - Here are the past and current portrayals of Wonder Woman.

It looks like one of the best scenes in Wonder Woman was nearly cut from the film at one point. Director Patty Jenkins makes it clear that it's a cultural difference, and that more often than not Diana's way of looking at the world is probably the most honest and accurate.

The "ragtag team" of World War I warriors includes, from left, Sameer (Said Taghmaoui), Steve Trevor (Chris Pine), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), the Chief (Eugene Brave Rock) and Charlie (Ewen Bremner) in "Wonder Woman".

If "Wonder Woman" does indeed put DC back on the right path (and judging by initial reviews, it does that in spades), then Warner Bros. and DC can get to work on the rest of the series, many of which will have fans salivating.

But even as Gadot's star rises all over the world this weekend, we should not forget the first time she won our hearts in a major action film.

So though Roven doesn't exactly say that there is absolutely no Wonder Woman 2, the success of the original is sure to bring those hopes off the ground and into production.

Nyong'o wasn't the only high-profile actress sharing her Wonder Woman excitement on social media.

Hot Toys has announced and revealed on Facebook a brand new Wonder Woman figurine based on her appearance in the new film. I've always felt that their movies take themselves too seriously; they are supposed to be fun after all. Both Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad were rated rotten by Rotten Tomatoes, but that didn't slow plans for Justice League, which will premiere in theaters on November 17 this year.
