Paramountcy, stephanotis stump area students in national spelling bee

Faith Baca of Aurora, an eighth-grader at the Rocky Mountain School of Expeditionary Learning, successfully spelled "sempiternal", which means eternal and unchanging.

The youngest-ever competitor, Edith Fuller, who turned 6 on April 22, was among the 259 youths still spelling at midday from a starting field of 291.

No matter. She got the word right and advanced to the finals of the competition.

Her first word on Wednesday was "nyctinasty", the movement of plants in response to the onset of darkness.

"I didn't want to stand up there any more, so I just quit asking questions", Una said, admitting she is nervous.

The preliminary round of the national event was on Tuesday. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that one of the words she had to spell correctly was "nasopharynx".


"She (his coach) has been supportive of him. that has helped him a lot in getting here", Muralidharan said. This is the Harrisonburg native's second stint at the Scripps National Spelling Bee and she's already dominating the stage.

Dale won the LNP Spelling Bee in March to earn his spot in the national competition. "I'm really enjoying it". The competition will resume with the championship rounds, 5:30-7:30 p.m. on ESPN.

In that round, Gabrielle had a brief conversation with the judge, according to National Spelling Bee blog.

It's also Miller's third year to compete, but he won't make it to the finals Thursday because he didn't score high enough on a written test.

The 90th Bee, conducted at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center near Washington, D.C., features spellers ages 6 to 15 from across the country and world.

She has watched Rajeev walk down the hallways for his three years in middle school practicing words from his morning study session.

At only 11 years-old, Hennessey still has three more years of eligibility. Spellers can compete in the national bee through eighth grade.
