Van strikes pedestrians on London Bridge

Police say a vehicle reportedly ran down pedestrians on London Bridge, and there were reports of stabbings nearby.

Mark Roberts, the witness on the bridge, said the van was traveling south across the River Thames at a high rate of speed and was swerving as it struck several people, knocking one person "about 20 feet into the air". The police said they are dealing with a "serious incident", CNN reported.

Police responded to a third incident in the Vauxhall area, but have determined it was a stabbing a not a terror incident.

The BBC reports police are searching for three suspects who could be armed, according to Reuters.

British Transport Police said there were reports of "multiple" casualties following the major incident on London Bridge.

"Armed officers responded and shots have been fired" in Borough Market, police tweeted.

Soon after, reports started coming in of stabbings at Borough Market, a nearby area full of bars and restaurants surrounding a popular food market.

There has been an incident on London Bridge, London's Metropolitan Police said Saturday night. They later clarified that it was a stabbing that was not connected to the other incidents.

British Prime Minister Theresa May has confirmed the incident is being treated as a potential act of terrorism, and says the investigation is "fast moving".

His administration is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to reinstate it. Trump also tweeted a pledge of help and support for London.

According to the Associated Press, authorities have closed three London Underground stations in close proximity to the bridge.

British Transport Police has asked people to avoid the area as it deals with the situation.

US President Donald Trump has also tweeted condolences and support.

The attacks come days ahead of a June 8 election and less than two weeks after a suicide bomber killed 22 people at a pop concert by United States singer Ariana Grande in Manchester in northern England.

Nick Archer, who was in the London Bridge area, told Sky News: "We came out (of a bar) on to the road and looked and looked to my left and there as a guy, I thought he was just drinking but he was lying on the floor.

"We can confirm we have taken at least 20 patients to six hospitals across London following the incident at London Bridge".

A speeding van ploughed into pedestrians before three attackers began stabbing people.

The police were urging the public to run to a place of safety, or hide if they can not.

Husband and wife Ben and Natalie told BBC Radio 5 Live they were outside Borough Market when they witnessed the incident there. Grande and others are slated to return to Manchester on Sunday for a benefit concert. He saw at least six people on the ground after the van veered on and off the pavement. She reported seeing the van being driven by a man at around 50 miles an hour before mounting the pavement and driving into pedestrians.

On March 22, the British Parliament building was attacked by a man who ran over pedestrians with a auto and then stabbed several people.
