White House doesn't deny Trump considering firing Mueller

According to Justice Department rules special counsel Robert Mueller cannot be fired without good cause

"I think he is considering perhaps terminating the special counsel", Ruddy, who leads the conservative news website Newsmax, said on PBS NewsHour. "I think it's pretty clear by what one of his lawyers said on television recently. I personally think it would be a significant mistake, even though I don't think there is a justification [for a special counsel]".

2 official at Justice, also promised that the special counsel, former FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III, would have the independence to pursue the investigation as he saw fit. Trump reportedly told top Russian diplomats in the Oval Office that pressure is now taken off after firing Comey.

But after the testimony of former FBI Director James Comey last week, Gingrich said he'd changed his mind.

A number of key Republicans have publicly advised Trump to keep Mueller.

However, a close confidante of Trump's said Mueller's ousting is under consideration. "What's he done to be fired?"

"Whoever leaked [news of the obstruction investigation] was obviously reading that he was thinking about giving Mueller the boot", an official told the Daily Beast. "They need to be independent".

(CNN) It seems that every other day there's a new story out that makes us want to bury our faces in our hands and mutter, "this can not be happening".

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., accused the media of "creating a rumor that's not happening". However, the White House has strongly denied these claims.

The biggest problem, of course, is Trump, who seems happy to mold himself into a brassier American version of Vladimir Putin or Kim Jong Un. The move would be Nixonian.

Ruddy argued that Mueller should not have taken the job of special counsel because he was under consideration for the other position, and had had the private meeting with the president for the Federal Bureau of Investigation director appointment.

Rosenstein is charged with Mueller's fate because Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself from all matters having to do with the Trump-Russia investigation.

"I won't mince words, " Leahy told Rosenstein on Tuesday.

Rosenstein said, "This may well be within the scope of the Special Counsel's investigation so I'm limited in what I can say about it", referring to special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation of Russia's possible ties to the Trump campaign and their effect on November's election. CNN has reported at the time that the White House was given only a brief heads up that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein was naming Mueller to oversee Russian interference in the 2016 election and potential collusion from Trump's campaign associates. That's what I would do. "As long as I'm in this position, he's not going to be fired without cause", he added.

"I think that he should be more cognizant of making sure that the people who come to work with him are non-partisan, for his own credibility", Bennett said of Mueller.

Ruddy issued a terse response directed at Spicer, but also admitted he didn't speak to Trump personally about this. "Memo to Sean: focus your efforts on exposing the flim-flam Russian allegations against POTUS and highlighting his remarkable achievements", added Ruddy.

On CSPAN: "I have some good sources in the administration".

Former United States attorney Barbara McQuade, who served under the Barack Obama administration, told the Daily Beast if Trump fired Mueller "and it could be shown that his objective was to impede the investigation, it could be additional evidence of obstruction of justice".

So what's going on here?

"It is not the function of the Director to make such an announcement", Rosenstein wrote.

"Mr. Gingrich said Mueller was 'a superb choice" with an impeccable reputation for fairness just a few weeks ago, but now says that there is no way Mueller can be fair.
