A '90s-Set 'Captain Marvel' Movie Opens Up Worlds of Possibilities

Captain Marvel is scheduled to open in theaters on November 2, 2018. While it's still quite a ways off and they're still probably casting and putting the finishing touches on the script, Marvel has some nice tidbits to share. First, we learned that the rumors are true: Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury will play a role in the movie.

Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige took the mic himself to spill the details about the upcoming Captain Marvel, the first female led film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We've known for a while that Fox and Marvel co-own the shapeshifting alien race, but they've yet to appear in a film. They're still not even shooting yet, bu this year at Comic-Con, Marvel Studios dropped a few more juicy details.

At last year's Comic-Con, Larson was officially revealed as Captain Marvel.

If the concept art shown at Hall H is anything to go by, our favourite green & purple Marvel regulars are going to look pretty comic accurate.

First up, we now know that the pic will not be a contemporary piece but will be set in the 1990s.

As for why the Skrulls have gone unmentioned for so long within the MCU, Feige seemed to imply we'll get our answer in Captain Marvel. However, Fury will have both eyes and no eyepatch, since the film is set before the time where he suffers his eye injury in the MCU. One is simply that Captain Marvel beat them so badly they left Earth's orbit and never showed their faces again.

A Captain Marvel film has been in the planning stages for a while now, but during the Marvel panel at the 2017 San Diego Comic-Con we received some more information about when the movie will be set and who the villains are.

So, how does Captain Marvel figure into the MCU, especially since its a prequel?
