Anthony to forfeit trade kicker if dealt to Rockets

Dallas Mavericks v New York Knicks

In Oklahoma City, Anthony would join reigning NBA MVP Russell Westbrook and newly acquired forward Paul George, a four-time All-Star.

According to the source, the National Basketball Association star is not willing to travel all the way to OR because he wants to stay with his 10-year-old son Kiyan Carmelo Anthony somewhere near NY where he and his mother is now based.

This would certainly be a huge deal for the Thunder, as it could potentially put them in contention in the brutally tough Western Conference.

Anthony - who does not want to play for the Knicks next season - has previously said that he would waive his no-trade clause for either the Cavs or Houston Rockets, but Frank Isola of the New York Daily News reports that he'd still prefer a trade to Houston over Cleveland.

Anthony had to this point only agreed to be dealt to the Rockets or Cavaliers, but the Thunder reportedly are trying to become a third option.

Before talks go any further, the Knicks would need to make sure that Anthony is willing to waive his no trade clause.

Carmelo Anthony, 33, has a sum of US$54.2 million (AU$70.9 million) left on the five-year max deal he signed with NY ahead of the 2014-15 season. The Thunder don't have much to offer in exchange for Anthony.

It's doubtful that the Thunder would have the trade material sought by the Kicks, for starters, with Adams" "Stache Brother mate, Enes Kanter, their most obvious piece they would be willing to give up.

There were reports that the Rockets still remained a top contender, but this week new rumors put the Oklahoma City among the teams in pursuit of Carmelo Anthony. "There's no way he's going to leave that little boy in NY and be 3,000 miles away from him".

The NBA trade rumors are working overtime this week, with the Oklahoma City Thunder emerging seemingly out of nowhere as a major contender for Carmelo Anthony's services.

A trio of Westbrook, George and Anthony would be highly entertaining. This is the primary reason the Rockets and Knicks haven't come to terms on a Carmelo Anthony trade.
