Captain Marvel time period and villain revealed

In further news, Feige mentioned that Captain Marvel will feature the aliens known as Skrulls.

Jackson, who Brie worked with on Kong: Skull Island, is confirmed to reprise his role as a younger Nick Fury in the film.

"Marvel Studios' presentation of the "#Captain Marvel" concept art at the San Diego Comic-Con stoked discussions among comic book and movie fanatics.

Like the actress singled out to play the role of US Air Force officer-turned-superheroine, "Captain Marvel" has an identity all her own.

Follow us here. Consider Marvel Comics' 2008 event storyline Secret Invasion, in which readers learned Skrulls replaced significant Marvel superheroes like Ant-Man, Elektra, and Spider-Woman in the past as part of a slow-burn, years-in-the-making infiltration of Earth in advance of an outright invasion. Skrulls can shapeshift and are redoubtable enemies. During the Marvel panel, it was understandably the new trailer for Thor: Ragnarok, and the exclusive footage for Avengers: Infinity War and Black Panther (the former of which leaked out in very low-res form) which took top billing and had fans the most excited. As much as we hope that Marvel takes several cues from the excellent Wonder Woman, one way they could potentially one-up DC here is to fill Captain Marvel's supporting cast with (diverse!) female characters, avoiding the trap of surrounding Carol with a bunch of male characters and painting her as the exception rather than the rule. It's also the first time Skrulls will be seen on the big screen. They've nearly certainly got one, and it's likely a big one that will have repercussions throughout the entire MCU. When comic writer Kelly Sue DeConnick first got ahold of Captain Marvel, she wrote a storyline in which Carol found herself launched backwards in time.

What do you think of seeing the Kree-Skrull War in live action?

The 90s setting and where she's been all this time since raise all sorts of interesting MCU questions, already covered well by our colleague and former Newsarama contributor Graeme McMillan here.

After this version of the Kree/Skrull war is wrapped up, Captain Marvel has to get back home to Earth. We'll have to wait until the films release on March 8, 2019. Below in the comments, let us know why you think Carol is now AWOL!
