She said that she, too, has a lot of questions such as why their body cameras were not on and why was the Australian woman shot even as she was the one who called 911.

The family of an Australian woman shot by police in Minnesota, reportedly after calling them for help, have revealed they've been told nearly nothing by local authorities.

Police said an officer fatally shot a woman after responding to a 911 call received at around 11.30 pm.

Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges called for a probe of why officers were not using the body cameras they are equipped with during the incident that led to the death of Justine Damond, from Sydney, around midnight Saturday.

Officials said the officers' body cameras weren't turned on and that a squad vehicle camera didn't capture the shooting. Damond, in her pajamas, went to the driver's side door and was talking to the driver. Both officers are reportedly on administrative leave. "I have questions about why the body cams weren't on", she said.

6 p.m.: Hodges holds a news conference, saying she is "heartsick and deeply disturbed" as a result of the incident. "... I know we are all anxious for more information and I will share more details once I receive them".

Despite the fact that nearly two days have passed since the shooting, the officer involved in the shooting has been identified, and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has confirmed it has completed an autopsy, there are still many questions about why the shooting transpired. A Minneapolis officer ultimately fired his weapon, killing Damond.

Ms Damond, also known as Justine Ruszczyk, was a trained veterinarian who worked as a spiritual healer and meditation teacher.

Although Justine and Don were not yet married, Justine referred to herself as Damond on her personal website. According to a law enforcement source, Damond was standing at the driver's side window when Noor opened fire from the passenger seat.

Investigators are now scrambling to figure out if any video of the situation exists. USA and Australian media gave her age as 40.

They said in a statement on behalf of her family: "This is a very hard time for our family".

Hundreds took to the streets of Minneapolis on Sunday to protest Damond's shooting.

"Sadly, her family and I have been provided with nearly no additional information from law enforcement regarding what happened after police arrived".
