Lok Sabha adjourned till 3 pm

Govt withdraws bill to amend Architects Act from Rajya Sabha

Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Ghulam Nabi Azad and Mallikarjun Kharge, JD-U's Sharad Yadav, CPI's D Raja, NCP's Supriya Sule and TMC leaders, including Kalyan Banerjee, were among those who took part in the protests.

When the House reassembled at 2.30 PM, Congress members were joined by the Left in protesting against the suspension, prompting Deputy Speaker M Thambi Durai to adjourn the House for the day.

The suspended MPs are Gourav Gogoi, K. Suresh, Adhiranjan Chowdhary, Ranjeet Ranjan, Sushmita Dev and MK Raghwan. They had thrown pieces of paper and tried to disrupt proceedings during zero hour in the Lok Sabha today.

Some of the protesting members also threw papers at Speaker Sumitra Mahajan as the treasury benches countered the opposition over questions related to mob lynching and Bofors scam allegations.

"If the Opposition want to speak, they should give notice". Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar reiterated the government's position put on record in the Rajya Sabha by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley that the government condemned violence in the name of cow and vigilantism attached to it.

Reacting to the statement, senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said that the decision to sack five leaders were not appropriate. She also adjourned the House till 2.30 PM.

Congress leader Shobha Oza told ANI, "The freedom of speech was restricted in the parliament when our MPs tried to protest lynching and violence over cow slaughter and were immediately suspended".

An upset Mahajan said she was "hurt" by the "unruly behaviour" and disruption of proceedings when she had agreed to allot time for a discussion on the issues. During the course of discussion, Members of the House presented their views and raised various questions which were satisfactorily and logically replied by the Minister of State.

This led Mahajan to warn the members that if any one of the officials or the Secretary General are harmed by mistake, then consequences would not be good.
