Marco Rubio 'applauds' Sam Brownback nomination for Religious Freedom Ambassador

Trump to nominate Brownback for religious ambassador post

President Donald Trump will nominate Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback to serve as ambassador-at-large for worldwide religious freedom.

In announcing the post, the White House explained that Brownback has previously "worked actively on the issue of religious freedom in multiple countries and was a key sponsor of the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998".

Brownback has always been an advocate for religious freedom at the expense of the LGBTI community.

In a tweet Brownback called religious freedom "the first freedom" and said he was honored "to serve such an important cause".

The Office of International Religious Freedom, according to its website, carries out its mission by issuing reports on persecution, meeting with foreign government officials, partnering with NGOs, and reaching out to religious communities in the US.

"I think when new governors take office they will be careful they don't go down the road that Brownback did and that will be the legacy this state will spend the next few years digging out from Brownback". Brownback also served as a U.S. Senator from 1996-2011 and a U.S. Representative for Kansas from 1995-1996.

And Samuel Rodriguez, the president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, who has at times been critical of Trump, said: 'The nomination of my dear friend [Brownback].is a significant and very positive step in the right direction for our country and the world. Givens said Wednesday. "That's going to change a lot of things".

The first term Senator is hopeful that Brownback's successor will help move future legislation forward. FOX 4 meant to hear from Lt. Gov. Colyer and we were told that he's now at a convention for lieutenant governors. Wolf doesn't doubt that he will be confirmed and said, "Sam was well liked and well thought of by members on both sides of the aisle".

"Religious freedom is the first freedom". Under the new law, Brownback said religious student groups could "establish religious beliefs as qualification for membership". "I am pleased with what I've gotten done as governor of this state". "70 some percent of the people are living in a religiously oppressed environment".

Brownback's popularity as a governor has also been waning.

Hart said Brownback is the best person for this job, and in many ways, the position was created with someone like him in mind. "He's a man of deep personal faith, conviction, sensitivity and empathy".

"This gives us a unique spokesman on these critical issues to Christians and people who are concerned about religious freedom around the world", Curry told CBN News.
