Pistons renouncing rights to Kentavious Caldwell-Pope

Avery Bradley averaged 16.2 points per game and shot 39 percent from three-point range for the Celtics last season

The Detroit Pistons are renouncing their rights to Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, which means he will now become an unrestricted free agent.

The Brooklyn Nets are planning to be an aggressive pursuer of Caldwell-Pope, angling to pair him in a young backcourt with D'Angelo Russell, league sources told ESPN.

Detroit made the move Friday morning, hours after acquiring Avery Bradley in a trade with the Boston Celtics that also netted the team a future second-round pick for Marcus Morris to Boston.

The Lakers will pursue LeBron James if he opts for free agency in 2018, and James and Caldwell-Pope share an agent: Rich Paul of Klutch Sports.

However, their front office has cap space tied up for five days because they offered a max deal to restricted free agent Otto Porter Jr. and will have to wait to see if Washington matches. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.com, the Pistons have chose to renounce Caldwell-Pope, a move that would make him an unrestricted free agent.

The Pistons initially were expected to match any offer he received.

Caldwell-Pope is coming off averaging 13.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 three-pointers per game in his fourth National Basketball Association season and could see an expanded offensive role in 2017-18, depending on who he ends up signing with. KCP may have been known as one of the team's best defensive players, but he can't boast Bradley's accomplishment as a two-time NBA All-Defensive Team selection.
