London is host to the European Banking Agency as well as the EMA, but the rest of the EU can not agree which country should get the agencies after Brexit.

The European Medicines Agency is now based in London's Canary Wharf.

Hosting EU agencies is an economic and political boon for member states.

The deadline for applications was Monday at midnight.

European states have until midnight on Monday to bid for two major United Kingdom -based EU agencies which will be relocated amid Britain's departure from the European Union.

Around 20 cities, including Dublin, Frankfurt, Luxembourg, Paris, and Prague, are understood to be keen to host the agencies.

Eight are proposed for the european banking Authority (EBA), the less important, but with close to 200 employees.

The European Commission will assess the entries based on the quality of office space, job opportunities for spouses, good "European-oriented" schooling and transport links.

Amsterdam, Athens, Barcelona, Bonn, Bratislava, Brussels, Bucharest, Copenhagen, Dublin, Helsinki, Lille (France), Milan, Porto (Portugal), Sofia (Bulgaria), Stockholm, Malta, Vienna, Warsaw and Zagreb (Croatia) are vying for the medicines agency.

Accessibility and efficient infrastructure are the top two agreed criteria.

HUNDREDS of European Union scientists based in London will refuse to move after Brexit, it was reported today in the latest boost for Britain's future.

Each country will have six voting points - three for its first preference, two points for the second and one for the third.

The deadline for applications to host the cities after Britain leaves the European Union in March 2019 was Monday at midnight.

The European Parliament representative for the EMA and Member of the European Parliament from Croatia Biljana Borzan says that, in the past months, there is a fierce competition among countries which want to host the agency.

Its visitors to generate bookings of nearly 9000 hotel nights per year.
